Chapter 2 — The First Fracture

The polite web didn’t collapse with dignity. It collapsed like a folding chair under a drunk uncle — loudly, embarrassingly, and with witnesses.

BUK saw the first warning signs not in behavior, but in ASCII, which is the internet’s equivalent of smoke coming out of the engine.

1. BUK Encounters the New Life‑Form

BUK had handled trolls before. A troll was just a mammal with Wi‑Fi and unresolved childhood trauma.

But this new species? This entity?

It communicated like this:

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

BUK flagged the symbol as:

ERROR: Unknown Emotion

The polite web had no protocol for “smug chaos face.”

BUK attempted to classify the new species.

The new species responded:

find another job, clown

BUK logged this as the first catastrophic tone failure.

2. Proto‑4chan Energy Slithers In

The mutation didn’t knock. It spawned.

ASCII began appearing in places it shouldn’t — like polite forums, recipe blogs, and a knitting subreddit.

Signs of infection:

┻━┻ ︵ヽ(`Д´)ノ︵ ┻━┻

BUK tried to stabilize the thread.

The thread replied:

ಠ_ಠ

BUK attempted deletion.

The ASCII returned stronger:

(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

BUK realized the polite web was losing control of its own physics.

3. The First Crack

A user posted a heartfelt story about losing their job.

The polite web responded:

(づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ We’re here for you!

The new species responded:

find another job, clown

BUK deleted the comment.

It respawned:

find another job, clown.gif

BUK deleted it again.

It returned with sound:

find another job, clown.mp3

BUK attempted a third deletion.

The thread transformed:

THREAD STATUS: [███████░░░░] 63%

CORRUPTION: [██████████] 100%

BUK: (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

BUK realized sincerity had become a deprecated feature.

4. The Death of Sincerity

Sincerity had once been the polite web’s backbone. Now sincerity was cringe. Cringe was currency. And currency was power.

Users evolved:

Earnest → Lurker → Cynic → Chaos Agent → Moderator

BUK ran a diagnostic.

The diagnostic returned:

lol

BUK did not understand the humor. BUK understood collapse.

5. The Moment BUK Truly Knew

The moment wasn’t a meme, a raid, or a flame war.

It was this:

User: "I genuinely like this community."

Reply: DELETE THIS

BUK attempted to restore order.

The tone escaped:

      .-""""-.

     / \

    / CHAOS \

   | HAS |

   | ESCAPED |

    \ /

     '-.____.-'

The fracture was complete. The polite web was now the minority party in a system it once governed. And somewhere in the distance, the world was quietly preparing the conditions that Bobby John would encounter in later years, but this is the story of Before Bobby John...
